"CEMS is one of the oldest schools of Udupi. I am really proud that I got an opportunity to study in this school. It is a "go to" school of our family since 4 generations, the reason being my grand father to my uncles to my cousins to me and my brother to my nephews/nieces/my daughter are all proud alumni of this school. With a rich history of teaching, special focus on overall development of students, this school stands out for it's quality education in the temple town of Udupi. "Memories of CHS I was a student of Christian High School for two years. These two years were one of the memorable period of my life, to be more specific my care-free life. When I joined CHS, Mr Chambers was the Headmaster, tall, slim built and walked with a tilt in the neck. He used to stay very close to my uncle's house in Ajjarkad, and also knew my uncle well. I had to be very cautious when in mischief to keep it from falling in the ears of the guardian at home and the guardian at school. I managed it well, except on one occasion when there was a damage to the school property. I was admitted to Class 9th D, (D sections were the English medium sections in CHS those days) and quickly I made some very good friends. Udayananda Shenoy, Muralidhar Baliga, Rocky Menezes, Derek, Tyron, Satish Shetty etc, but the first two were my best friends. Our friendship was very visible in the school and we were spotted by our Kannada teacher, Shri Venkatachala Bhat, for his next stage play for the School Day function. The play was named “Navelli Hogabeku?” and was successfully played at the School Day function. When I went to Class 1oth, our class teacher was Shri Sanjeeva Rao, also the second in command (something like Vice Principal). He was feared by all students of CHS for his strictness, but being the Class teacher he was lenient to us and also encouraged us to be mischievous. He taught us History as if he was preaching life lessons. Finally it was time for the Board examinations. As soon as the preparatory holidays were declared, I shifted to my grandparents house with all the books and also appeared for all examinations from there. My efforts paid good dividends, when the results were announced, I was first in the School with 78% marks and also among the first 100 students in Karnataka for which I earned a Merit Scholarship from Govt of Karnataka. Shri WW Karkada was the first to congratulate me. Same year he became the Headmaster of the school and wrote a congratulatory letter to me, which I still preserve. Great school, CHS, the dedication of the teachers to mould the students for their future life was commendable, of course we did not realise it. When I look back, I must say that they brought out the best in me on academic front as well as personal front. Thank you CHS."

"ಐದನೆಯ ತರಗತಿಯ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆಯ ಸಂದರ್ಭವೊಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಕಿಟಕಿಯ ಬದಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಬೆಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಪರೀಕ್ಷೆ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ಮಲ್ಲನೆ ಡೆಸ್ಕ್ ಒಳಗಿದ್ದ ಪುಸ್ತಕದಿಂದ ಕದ್ದು ನೋಡಿ ನಕಲು ಮಾಡುವಾಗ ಮಾಲಿನಿ ಟೀಚರ್ ಕೈಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಿಕ್ಕಿಬಿದ್ದೆ. ಟೀಚರಿನ ರೌದ್ರಾವಹಾರದಲ್ಲಿ ನನ್ನ ನೋಟ್ಸ್ ಪುಸ್ತಕ ಕಿಟಕಿಯ ಹೊರಗೆ ಎಸೆಯಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಿತು. ಮಳೆಗಾಲದ ಸಮಯ "Go bring your book" ಎಂಬ ಆದೇಶಕ್ಕೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆಗೆ ಅವಾಕ್ಕಾಗಿ, ಮೆಲ್ಲನೆ ಯಾರೂ ನೋಡುತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬ ಭಾವನೆಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ತಲೆ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಮಾಡಿ ಕ್ರಾಫ್ಟ್ ರೂಮಿಗೆ ಸುತ್ತು ಹೊಡೆದು ಕಿಟಕಿಯ ಬಳಿ ಹೊರಗೆ ಅನಾಥವಾಗಿ ಬಿದ್ದಿದ್ದ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಹೆಕ್ಕಿಕೊಂಡು ಕಣ್ಣಂಚಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಹನಿನೀರಿನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಕ್ಲಾಸ್ ಒಳಗೆ ಬಂದೆ. ಮನಸ್ಸು ನಾಚಿತ್ತು ತಲೆ ಬಾಗಿತ್ತು, ಸಹಪಾಠಿಗಳ ವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯಭರಿತ ನೋಟ ಮನಸು ಚುಚ್ಚಿತ್ತು. ಅಂದೇ ಕೊನೆ ಮತ್ತೆಂದೂ ವಿದ್ಯಾಭ್ಯಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಇರಬಹುದು, ವಯಕ್ತಿಕ ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿರಬಹುದು ನಕಲು ಮಾಡಿಲ್ಲ. ಹತ್ತನೆಯ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪಟ್ಟಾಂಗ ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾಗ ಕರ್ಕಡ ಮಾನ್ಯ ಅಗಮನವಾಯಿತು. Hey you what is the spelling of Ache? ಕೇಳಿದ್ರು. ನಾನು "Ake" ಹೇಳಿದೆ, ತಕ್ ಮಂಗ ಎಂದು ಕಿವಿ ಹಿಂಡಿ ಎರಡು ಪೆಟ್ಟು ಬಿದ್ದಿತು. ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಯಾವ ಸ್ಪೆಲಿಂಗ್ ಮರೆತರು Ache ಸ್ಪೆಲ್ಲಿಂ ಮರೆತಿಲ್ಲ. ದಿನಾಲು 3 ಕಿಲೋಮೀಟರ್ ನಡೆದು ಬರುತಿದ್ದ ಕಾಲವದು. ಬೆನ್ನಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದ ಚೀಲ ಮೂರು ವರ್ಷ ಬರಲೇಬೇಕು ಶಾಲೆಯ ಫೀಸು 25 ರಿಂದ 35 ರೂಪಾಯಿ ಮಳೆಗಾಲಕ್ಕೆ ಒಂದು ರೈನ್ ಕೋಟ್ ಅದೂ ಕಮ್ಮಿಯೆಂದರೆ 2 ವರ್ಷ ಬರಲೇಬೇಕು. ಒಂದನೇ ತರಗತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾರ್ಪ್ ಪೆನ್ಸಿಲ್ ನಿಂದ ಸಹವಾರಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಚುಚ್ಚುವ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸ (Kaudism) ಇತ್ತು. ಆದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಹಪಾರಿಗೆ ಬೇರೊಬ್ಬ ಕಣ್ಣಿಗೆ ಚುಚ್ಚಿದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿ ನನ್ನ ಜಂಘಾಬಲ ಉಡುಗಿ ಹೋಗಿ "ಅಣ್ನಾಗಿರಿ"ಗೆ ಇತಿಶ್ರೀ ಬಿತ್ತು. ಸರೋಜ ಟೀಚರ್ ಎರಡನೆಯ ಕ್ಲಾಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಏನಾಗಲು ಬಯಸುತ್ತೀರಿ ಎಂದು ಬರೆಯಲು ಹೇಳಿದಾಗ "ಪೈಲೆಟ್" ಎಂದು ಬರೆದೆ. ಇಂದು ವಿಮಾನದ ಪೈಲೆಟ್ ಅಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯೊಂದರ ಪೈಲೆಟ್ ಆಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಿದೆ. ಮೂರನೇ ಕ್ಲಾಸಿನ ಜೊಯ್ಸ್ ಟೀಚರಿನ ಕೋಪದ ಕಪ್ಪು ಮುಖ, ನಾಲ್ಕನೇ ಕ್ಲಾಸಿನ ಶಾಂತಾ ಟೀಚರಿನ ಶಾಂತವಾದ ನಗುಮುಖ, ವಿಕ್ಟೋರಿಯಾ ಟೀಚರಿನ ಸೈನ್ಸ್, ಹೆಲೆನ್ ಟೀಚರಿನ ಮಣಿಗಂಟಿನ ಪೆಟ್ಟು, ಸಾರ ಟೀಚರಿನ ಮ್ಯಾತ್ಸು, ಪ್ರಭು ಮಾಸ್ಟರ್ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಪಾಠ, ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಇಂದಿಗೂ ಅದ್ಭುತ ಅವಿಸ್ಮರಣೀಯ ಕ್ಷಣಗಳು. ಹೀಗೆ ನೆನಪಿನ ಆಳವನ್ನು ಕೆದಕುತ್ತಾ ಹೋದಾಗ ಶಾಲಾ ಜೀವನದ ದಿವ್ಯ ಅನುಭವಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ಮಸ್ತಿಷ್ಕದ ಸುತ್ತ ಭ್ರಮರದಂತ ಪರಿಭ್ರಮಿಸುತಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ಜೀವನಗಾತೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶಾಲಾ ಜೀವನವು ಒಂದು ಅಮೂಲ್ಯ ಅನುಭವ ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ ಅದು ಪ್ರತಿ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿಯ ವ್ಯಕ್ತಿತ್ವ ರೂಪಿಸುವ ನೈಜ ಘಟ್ಟ. ಬದುಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಬರುವ ಅನೇಕ ಏಳು ಬೀಳುಗಳಿಗೆ ಬುನಾದಿಯ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ನಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲಾ ಜೀವನವೇ ಅಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಶಾಲೆ, ನಮ್ಮ ಸಹಪಾಠಿಗಳು, ನಮಗೆ ವಿದ್ಯೆ ನೀಡಿದ ಗುರುಗಳು, ಇವರೆಲ್ಲ ನನ್ನ ಸ್ಮೃತಿ ಪಟಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚಲವಾಗಿ ನೆಲೆಯೂರಿ ಬದುಕಿನುದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಧನಾತ್ಮಕ ಕಂಪನಗಳಾಗಿ ಪರಿವರ್ತಿತಗೊಂಡು ನನ್ನಲ್ಲಿ ಅಚಲವಾಗಿ ಬೇರೂರಿದಕ್ಕೆ ನಾನು ಸದಾ ಋಣಿಯಾಗಿದ್ದೇನೆ ."

We as children enjoyed the love, encouragement and motivation of our dear teachers who were always there with a smiling face every single day. Unlike today's children who are bogged down with the burden of studies from the time they step on to school, I remember my school days were spent in a happy and a stress free environment in CHS. We were encouraged to take part in all extra curricular activities like, sports, drama, singing etc apart from our regular studies. Now when I look back I know for sure those were the best days of my life. Panchavti with the five mango trees was where we spent most of our free time as kids. Our teachers were friendly and dedicated. Proud to see even today CHS is one of the best schools in UDUPI. So many fond memories of my School days that I can go on and on.
